#TravelsWithOllie: October Group Hike
October 8, 2018
This month we stayed local with an adventure in Arlington's Potomac Overlook Regional Park. While the "overlook" part of the park is no longer viewable due to tree growth, the rest of the park has a wonderful network of winding trails through the forest and over the streams.
Our group was one of the largest yet – 17 dogs and 18 people – so there was no chance of wildlife sightings on our Sunday morning adventure. We started our hike on the Overlook Loop trail to get everyone warmed up. Then we picked up the Red Maple and Heritage trails before connecting to the Donaldson Run trail to finish out the 2 miles. The trails were well maintained, though not always well marked. We had the opportunity to try out a few small water crossings and some short but steep ascents which gave everyone a nice little morning workout.
Next month (November 4th), we're going to head west for my favorite Shenandoah hike – Mary's Rock. This will be the 3rd time trying to do this hike in our #travelswithollie series, rainy weather canceled the last two attempts. So fingers crossed for a beautifully crisp and cool November day.
