#TravelsWithOllie: December Holiday Stroll

December 10, 2018
For the last Travels With Ollie hike in 2018, we headed to Mount Vernon, George Washington's Virginia estate for a low-key holiday stroll. The grounds at Mount Vernon are super dog-friendly and when our group rolled up with 28+ dogs the ticket booth personnel jumped with joy.

The dog sweaters were out in full force for this beautiful, chilly morning adventure. We started with a visit to the estate's resident camel, Aladdin, then headed through the forest trail to the 16-sided barn and wharf. Everyone paid their respects to George and Martha, entombed on the south side of the estate, before we headed up to the mansion for more photo ops and playtime on the lawn. We attempted a group shot and everyone parted ways with their little goodie bags in hand.
Leading this group – our largest yet – was just what I needed after a week where we lost our dear Annie to a brain tumor. The dogs' excitement at the barnyard animals and being out on an adventure will brighten any mood. Thanks to everyone who joined us on this or any other hike we've done this year. It's been great getting to know all of you.

We are taking January off, beginning the 2019 hikes on February 10th with a loop around the DC monuments. Learn more on my facebook page and if you're planning to attend, please RSVP.
